Kudelski-owned content protection specialist, Nagravision, said Tuesday that it has been tapped by its existing customer, Spanish operator, ONO, to secure the latter's next-generation hybrid TV platform. According to Nagravision, the platform, which will employ software from TiVo both on DVR- and non DVR-enabled set-top boxes (see the article published on itvt.com, June 30th), will be delivered over ONO's fiber-optic network and will be the first broadcast/broadband content delivery network in Spain.

International cable operator, Liberty Global, on Wednesday announced plans to work with Samsung, Intel, NDS and Nagravision to build a new multimedia home gateway device for its digital TV customers. According to Liberty Global, the device will be an all-IP platform, capable of distributing video, voice and data throughout the home and to multiple video displays; and will sport a user interface that will "seamlessly" integrate video content, widgets, apps, and an advanced search and recommendation engine that the company promises "will forever change how our customers experience digital TV and IP-based content." The device is scheduled for deployment to Liberty Global's European cable customers in the first half of 2011.

--DISH Network in Conditional Access System Agreement with Kudelski's Nagravision
VOD and advanced advertising technology provider, SeaChange International, announced Tuesday that satellite TV provider, DISH Network, is upgrading its entire platform of SeaChange Spot advertising insertion systems to meet what it claims is a growing demand for HD ad placements across its North American footprint. SeaChange is DISH Network's exclusive ad insertion technology provider, having delivered ads for the satellite TV provider since it launched its DBS service back in 1996.
--Zappware Supplies ITV Apps to Four Flemish Regional TV Stations
Belgian interactive TV technology provider, Zappware (note: the company recently appointed Patrick Vos, who had headed up its international sales efforts, as CEO, in what it said was part of an ongoing strategy to focus more on international markets--see [itvt] Issue 8.23 Part 1), announced last month that it has been selected by Nagravision, a Kudelski Group-owned provider of content-security technology, to help develop a custom suite of interactive TV applications for use with VOD and VOD-related services. The applications, which will be part of Nagravision's NagraGuide suite of interactive apps, will include VOD catalog, catch-up TV, and start-over TV apps.
